Danny Cowley makes statement explaining reasons behind Huddersfield Town U-turn

Danny Cowley claims he changed his mind over becoming Huddersfield boss because he would have regretted rejecting them again.

As revealed by Mirror Sport, Cowley has left Lincoln after three highly-successful years to become Huddersfield ’s new manager with his brother Nicky as his assistant.

Cowley turned down the Terriers’ initial approach last week and says he performed his U-turn because he realised it was such an enticing opportunity.

“Nicky and I have a burning ambition to challenge ourselves at the highest possible level,” he said.

“We don’t know if an opportunity as good as this one will come around again and we never want to live with regret.”

Huddersfield persuaded Cowley to come to the John Smith’s Stadium in talks over the weekend and claim he was always their No.1 choice to succeeded the sacked Jan Siewert.

Cowley, 40, has guided Lincoln from the National League to fifth in League One and owner and chairman Phil Hodgkinson is certain he can revive Huddersfield.

“Our research, due diligence and work resulted in a shortlist of four candidates, and Danny Cowley was No.1,” said Hodgkinson.

“His track record is there for all to see - he has led his previous teams to five promotions and several cup successes - and our character references revealed a man, who is one of the most detailed managers around; meticulous in his preparation and highly regarded by his peers.

“Our persistence paid off and when we spoke, there was an obvious chemistry.”

The Terriers have been in free fall following their relegation from the Premier League.

They currently sit 23rd in the Championship with just one point from their first six games.
