Danny Cipriani has issued a statement to rebut suggestions he was the nightclub partner of Louis Rees-Zammit when he was deemed to be unfit for Six Nations selection in 2020.
The 33-year-old former England fly-half, who left Gloucester in December, took to Twitter on Friday to refute the suggestion.
Wales boss Wayne Pivac had opened up this week about Rees-Zammit's transformation from being "unselectable" last year to Wales' star of the Six Nations win.
The Wales head coach told The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast : "He was unselectable in the first Six Nations [2020]. People were telling us that we should have played him but he couldn't repeat speed. He was so unfit.
"He was at Gloucester there with a superstar for a bit of a while, doing a bit of nightclubbing and that sort of thing.
"Now that those two aren't together anymore he's working a lot harder, let's put it that way!"
The Times reported it as an apparent reference to Danny Cipriani, who has now issued a statement to clarify matters.
He said: "I wouldn’t normally acknowledge this however on this occasion I am. I’ve never been to a night club with Louis Rees-Zammit.
"Times Sport need to get their facts right before writing such damaging nonsense."
After departing Gloucester in December, Cipriani is now set to link up with Bath in May on an "extended" one-year contract which will include the completion of the 2020/21 season.
He had played just one match of the 2020/21 campaign for the Cherry and Whites, and the Bath move will mark him representing his fourth Gallagher Premiership club.
