Danny Care’s England exile will not last long if he heeds Eddie Jones’ advice, insists Paul Gustard

Harlequins’ head of rugby Paul Gustard does not believe Danny Care’s England exile will last for long.

The scrum-half was left out of Eddie Jones’s 36-man squad for their Six Nations opener against Ireland in Dublin tomorrow week in favour of Wasps’ Dan Robson.

Care, 32, who is likely to be rested for the Premiership Cup match against Saracens on Saturday, is England’s most capped scrum-half but he now faces a fight to get back in the squad ahead of this year’s World Cup.

"I am disappointed for Danny, as I am for other Harlequins players who aren’t in there that have been playing really well,” Gustard said. “But it’s not my job to select the national team.

“Eddie has got to see what is right currently and he has given Danny feedback on where he feels he can improve, and I am sure if Danny focuses on those areas then he will be back in that team before too long.

“Danny is the most capped English scrum-half in the history of the game and that is no mean feat, but he has taken on the feedback from Eddie, he has not moaned about it.”
