Danny Buderus to be appointed Knights director of football

Danny Buderus

Knights legend Danny Buderus is set to be appointed as the club's new director of football.

The Newcastle Herald understands Buderus has quit his job with Fox Sports after being headhunted by the Knights for the position and will kick off in the role next month.

Buderus replaces Brian Canavan, who announced last month he was leaving the club.

An NRL Hall of Famer, Buderus is a previous Knights captain and the club's most capped player with 257 NRL games.

One of the game's most highly respected figures, he has also been an assistant coach of the Knights and took the head coaching reins in an interim capacity for the final six games of the 2015 season after the sacking of Rick Stone.

He was Nathan Brown's assistant in 2016 before leaving the job at the end of that season to link with Fox Sports as a commentator.

He will quit that role to take the Knights' job but will still retain his assistant coaching job with the NSW Blues Origin side.
