Danny Baker's career 'is OVER with axed BBC star to lose £300,000', expert predicts

Danny Baker could lose up to £300,000 in earnings and will 'really struggle to salvage his career', an expert predicts.

The 61-year-old was axed from BBC 5Live radio today after over a 'racist' tweet about Prince Harry and Meghan's son Archie.

And PR guru Rob Cooper, who has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, believes the timing of the situation could turn everyone - including reality TV bosses - off working with him.

"The timing couldn't have been worse. People's fondness for the royal family following a birth is heightened which means the reaction is stronger, which in turn leads to awareness being dramatically increased," Rob tells Mirror Online.

The backlash was immediate when Baker shared an image of a well-dressed couple holding hands with a chimp wearing clothes and carrying a cane with the caption, " Royal Baby leaves hospital."

He deleted the tweet and denied it was a reference to new mum Meghan's mixed race heritage, insisting it was a play on Archie's wealth.

However, the BBC dismissed him in a terse phone call, with a spokesperson branding the social media post a "serious error of judgement".

Danny's earnings at the Beeb were not included in the broadcaster's annual salary list, suggesting he was paid less than the £150,000 threshold that requires wages to be made public.

But nonetheless, Rob predicts the incident could cost the radio star hundreds of thousands of pounds, as well as his career, given the current climate.

"The UK is currently going through a stage where people's opinions are divided," Rob explains.

"Most people strongly believe that any racist, sexist or homophobic comment should be dealt with strongly, and others think it’s simply political correctness gone too far and the celebrity subsequently attracts a small but passionate support fan base.

"Because of this divide it would usually make Danny a great contestant for a couple of high profile reality shows.

"However, he already did a stint in the jungle back in 2016 and Celebrity Big Brother is off air, and it’s unlikely any other show will take a gutsy approach to booking someone who will now be regarded as a 'controversial character'.

"Without a big reality show platform to redeem himself I think he will struggle for the next 24 months and is likely to experience a loss of around £300,000."
