Danny Ainge has reached out to representatives of waived players

The NBA trade deadline was chaotic for most of the league’s contenders, especially those in the Eastern Conference. That wasn’t the case for the Boston Celtics, having spent so much time calming the New Orleans Pelicans with the hopes they wouldn’t trade Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers. All Boston did was dump Jabari Bird off on the Atlanta Hawks.

But by moving Bird, the Celtics now have room to add another player to the roster. Originally, there was speculation the Celtics would go after Enes Kanter, but another report indicates that’s not the case.

Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge indicated he and the rest of the front office are looking to fill that slot, per Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix. Though, Ainge doesn’t know how successful the Celtics will be in adding someone new given their depth.

It’s hard to imagine someone without a home wouldn’t want to join a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference. Especially when it comes to a post presence, a position where the Celtics need help with Aron Baynes out for an extended period of time.
