Danish giants JYSK to open big new homeware store in Leeds

Denmark’s largest global retailer is opening a new store in Leeds as they look to open five new UK shops.

JYSK will be launching the new branches by the end of August with the five new additions creating an estimated 100 jobs.

Founded in Denmark in 1979 by Lars Larsen, over the past four decades JYSK has expanded to 51 countries with more than 2,900 stores worldwide. For those unfamiliar with the business they are known for their homewares and garden supplies.

As well as Leeds, the new UK stores will be located in Barnsley, Bury, Stockport and Gainsborough.

Jenny Johnston, JYSK’s sales and marketing manager for UK and Ireland, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring JYSK to five new locations across the UK. The sky is the limit for JYSK, and we remain committed to our expansion plans even in the current climate.”

The new shops will take the total number of UK and Ireland branches to 26. We’ve enquired about where the Leeds and Barnsley stores will be based but the JYSK team has yet to confirm this.

JYSK shops tend to be based at retail parks. We’ll bring you more information when we get it.
