Danilo to Nottingham Forest transfer update emerges as rivals 'remain in the race'

Nottingham Forest are still trying to get a deal done with Palmeiras for the transfer of Danilo Oliveira after negotiating into the night.

The Brazilian outfit have not accepted an offer from the Reds, but "negotiations continue", according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The transfer expert added that talks will continue today.

Romano also claims that Forest tabled an offer of close to €20million (£18m) for the defensive midfielder. AS Monaco apparently "remain in the race", though, and are "pushing again" for the 21-year-old, whose future destination could be decided on Wednesday.

Danilo, who has already been called up to the Brazil national team, has been a constant in Palmeiras' midfield since breaking into the team as a 19-year-old. Danilo has twice won the Copa Libertadores and finished the most recent league season in Brazil by winning Serie A, alongside Forest’s new signing Gustavo Scarpa.

Brazilian media claim that Palmeiras have asked to keep the player until the summer, which is described as a “possibility”. UOL Esporte report that the midfielder has already told people close to him that he plans to reunite with Scarpa at Forest. Danilo missed just four league games as Scarpa took the plaudits for his 19 goal involvements as Palmeiras won the Serie A title.
