Danilo Rangers transfer truth revealed as striker was 'board signing'

Rangers striker Danilo was a board signing, according to a report.

It's claimed the Brazilian forward was recruited largely by the Ibrox board rather than a signing targeted by the manager in situ.

The 26-year-old joined Rangers from Feyenoord on a five-year deal as Michael Beale's eighth signing of the summer transfer window in 2023.

However, according to The Daily Record, Danilo was a signing approved by the board.

The outlet claims Danilo was "further down the target list" than Cyriel Dessers who was signed in the same window.

It's thought Dessers was not one of the top two choices to be signed by Beale when he was in charge and on the lookout for a striker.

Haji Wright and Kasper Dolberg were favoured to Dessers, with Danilo a noted name but not high on the list of Beale's desired targets.

However, Rangers would sign the Brazilian as the board believed it to be a solid piece of business.

Since signing, Danilo has gone on to play 48 times for Rangers, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists for the Ibrox side.

The forward suffered significant injury issues in Glasgow with a jaor knee injury and broken cheekbone keeping him sidelined for extended spells.
