Danilo makes 'difficult' Nottingham Forest admission as fresh Premier League challenge set

Danilo is aiming to build on an “above expectations” start to his time at Nottingham Forest as he prepares for the 2023/24 season.

After arriving at the City Ground in January from Palmeiras, the Brazilian took a little while to adapt. The language barrier, in particular, was a challenge. But once he found his feet, he showed the star quality which has got Reds fans excited for the progress he can make.

He seems to revel in having his own chant, too, having enjoyed conducting the crowd in a rendition when survival was celebrated after victory over Arsenal in May. Danilo played a key role in Forest getting to that point, scoring in three successive games and catching the eye amid some crucial results.

Those performances have reportedly put him in line for a Brazil call-up. And he is determined to keep improving as Steve Cooper’s side aim to push on in the top flight.

“I think my first season was above expectations,” the midfielder told Globo in a translated interview. “I arrived with difficulties, I had few opportunities at the beginning, but then I ended up conquering my space and I knew that if I had more chances I would adapt faster within the Premier League and would help Nottingham to remain in the first division. And that's how it happened.

“The beginning was challenging due to the language. I had difficulties, but later with time and many studies, I was able to adapt well. All the players helped me, I was very well received by the coaching staff and when the season ended I was very happy with the affection I received from the club's fans.

“Now I'm going to do a full season. I'm already adapted to the country, the language, the style of play and we hope to have a quieter season.

“I had the opportunity to be called by Tite (former Brazil boss) and it was very rewarding. If I keep working and playing well the chance will come, so I have to focus on playing good games next season.”
