Danielle Hunter has a decent chance to break the Vikings’ all-time sack record

I know, I know.

Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter is only 24 years old and has only been in the NFL for four seasons. But in those four years, he’s already amassed 40 sacks, including 12.5 last season.

Hunter ranks 11th in team history in sacks and is 74 behind John Randle for first.

There’s a lot of his career (the majority of it, hopefully) to be played and we’ve seen players like Hunter fall off before. But, if Hunter can continue to be solid, being the team’s all-time sack record is doable. Hunter would have to average 7.4 sacks over the next 10 seasons to hit that mark. While Hunter might not do that for 10-straight years, there’s also a good chance he’ll go over seven sacks in a season more than a couple of times.

Hunter is under contract with the Vikings until the 2023 season. He’ll only be 28 when that contract expires.

For those of you wondering about NFL records, Bruce Smith has the NFL all-time sack record with 200. Hunter would need to average 16 sacks per season over the next decade.

Smith played until he was 40. If Hunter can do that, he would need to average 10 sacks over the next 16 seasons.

Maybe crazy to think about, but it’s June and NFL content isn’t exactly rolling right now.
