Danielle Collins removed from World TeamTennis tournament after breaking coronavirus protocol

Former Australian Open semi-finalist Danielle Collins has been thrown out of the World TeamTennis tournament in West Virginia after breaking coronavirus protocols surrounding the event.

The 26-year-old had been scheduled to play at the three weeks of the WTT season, which is being played in front of crowds.

But on Tuesday, organisers said: “We have dismissed Danielle Collins…for the remainder of the 2020 World TeamTennis season after breaking our Covid-19 protocols and leaving The Greenbrier Resort and the state of West Virginia.

“The protocols have been put in place and communicated numerous times to protect the health and safety of our players, coaches and staff which are of utmost importance to WTT.”

American Frances Tiafoe was forced out of the mixed-gender WTT events after testing positive for Covid-19 while playing at the All-American Team Cup exhibition tournament in Atlanta.

Star attractions for the WTT already include Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters, as part of her comeback to the WTA Tour.
