Daniele Baldelli’s favourite tracks

Daniele Baldelli
Daniele Baldelli.

The track I’ll be opening my next DJ set with
Daniele Baldelli: Cosmic Drag

I like the meaning of these two words, so this is the name I’ve given to my latest project.

The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
John Tropea: Livin’ In The Jungle

A must for aficionados of the cosmic sound.

The track that currently gets the most rewinds
Harry Thumann: Underwater

This song has always been with me, since 1980. I can never miss it out of my DJ sets, though I play it at 33rpm instead of 45. In those days we used to cover the label so no one would know the title; today, however, there’s Shazam.

The track I’d play to show off my eclectic tastes
Nick Mason: Wervin’

Searching through my 60,000 vinyls, I found this song from 1981. I’m sure he didn’t produce it with the dancefloor in mind, but I, on the other hand, think that’s exactly what it’s made for!

The track that got me out of bed this morning
Al Di Meola: Sequencer

No need for bread and jam, orange juice or chocolate: this is the right energy in the morning!

The ideal festival track
Funky Nassau

I do not know who does the version that I have on a white label, but it’s live and made for the party.

The track I’d play at sunset in Ibiza
Steve Winwood: Different Light

This song really does have a different light to it.

The track I wish I’d signed to my label
Passport: Ju-Ju-Man

Or Weather Report’s Boogie Woogie Waltz. There are no words: they’re such significant moments in my musical formation.

The track that should hacve been a crossover hit
Kissing The Pink: Big Man Restless

I used to play this at Cosmic Club in 1983. I really liked it but it wasn’t appreciated by my crowd. This really annoyed me. I really wanted it to become a hit so then I could claim I’d already been playing it for ages.

The best track by my favourite new artist
Marco Dionigi: I Must Feel Better

He was only 14 years old when he became my fan. Then he became a DJ genius. And now we are also working together on a few productions and remixes.

The track I’d play at my funeral
Phil Collins: Hand In Hand

It gives me a feeling of joy and infinite peace.

Daniele Baldelli plays Sunday Love, The Old Queen’s Head, N1, Sun
