Daniel Walmsley charged in connection with Bigg Market car drama

A man is today due in court over Saturday night's Bigg Market car incident.

Daniel Walmsley, of no fixed abode, has been charged with dangerous driving, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault, driving whilst disqualified, driving with no insurance and driving without a licence.

The 28-year-old is due to appear before South East Northumberland Magistrates on Wednesday.

At just after 9pm on Saturday, police received a report of a fight involving a number of people on the Groat Market, Newcastle.

During the incident a car was allegedly driven at a man.

When officers arrived those involved had left the scene.

A police spokesperson said: "A video of the incident was widely shared on social media but earlier this week a 28-year-old man was arrested by police.

"Now Daniel Walmsley, 28, of no fixed abode, has been charged with dangerous driving, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault, driving whilst disqualified, driving with no insurance and driving without a licence."
