Daniel Theis escorted off floor after injuring ankle against Raptors

Boston Celtics center Daniel Theis, now in his third season with the team after spending seven seasons playing internationally, was escorted off the floor after appearing to roll his ankle in a crowd of players.

The 27-year-old Theis started the game for the Celtics. He’s now questionable to return to game with a left ankle sprain.

What makes Theis’ injury particularly interesting is that with veteran center Enes Kanter out with a left knee contusion and rookie center Tacko Fall out with concussion-like symptoms, Boston’s deepest position entering the season is now their thinnest.

There are four centers on the roster without including Fall, who is with the Celtics on a two-way contract. However, only second-year center Robert Williams III and rookie center Vincent Poirier are currently healthy enough to play.

The result of Theis’ injury could be Boston playing small until Kanter returns or more minutes for Williams and Poirier, the latter of whom has yet to make his NBA debut.
