Daniel Sturridge leaves Trabzonspor after contract 'terminated by mutual consent'

Former Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge has left Turkish side Trabzonspor after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The ex-Chelsea frontman, who signed a three-year deal in Trabzon last summer, made just 13 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and only starting on eight occasions.

In a statement on their official club website, Trabzonspor said: "The contract signed between our company and our professional footballer Daniel Andre Sturridge, dated 21.08.2019 and ending 31.05.2021 has been mutually terminated.

"In accordance with the termination agreement, the football player gave up all his forward-looking rights and receivables."

Sturridge, 30, has been outshone at Trabzonspor by Crystal Palace loanee Alexander Sorloth, who has bagged 24 goals in all competitions.

The striker's final appearance came against Besiktas on February 22, when he was substituted after 55 minutes before missing Saturday's game against Caykur Rizespor with a toe injury.

Trabzonspor sit ahead of Galatasaray at the top of the Turkish Super Lig on goal difference and have a game in hand.
