Daniel Sturridge arrives in Turkey as former Liverpool forward gets set to complete transfer

Daniel Sturridge has touched down in Turkey ahead of his shock move to Trabzonspor .

The former Liverpool striker has been courted by a number of clubs this summer after being released by the Reds at the end of his last contract.

Monaco were one of the teams interested in signing the 29-year-old, while a move to the MLS was also mooted.

However it appears Sturridge looks set to put pen to paper on a free transfer to the Super Lig club, after being pictured arriving at a local airport.

Trabzonspor look to have fended off fellow Turkish side Fenerbahce, who also held discussions with Sturridge over a possible move, but failed to agree terms.

The England international was believed to have 13 concrete offers from across the globe, with Real Betis, Marseille and Bologna all said to have made enquiries.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan recently slammed Sturridge's attitude and claimed he would not sign him, even for nothing.

Jordan told talkSPORT: "Not in any parallel universe would I sign Daniel Sturridge. Not for me.

“I wouldn’t even give him a pay-as-you-play deal.

“I wouldn’t want Sturridge in my dressing room or at my training ground around younger players.”

“I think the conventional wisdom in the game is that Daniel Sturridge is a troubled, problem player.

Sturridge was not offered a new deal at Liverpool (PA)

“He’s a very, very, very talented footballer but he’s a divisive influence. Jurgen Klopp has never had him since day one he arrived at Liverpool."

Sturridge made just six starts for the Reds last season, scoring three times, but was deemed surplus to requirements with the club opting not to offer him a new deal.

The Turkish domestic league season has already kicked off, with Trabzonspor drawing their first match of the campaign on Sunday.

Should Sturridge make the switch he will join up with former Chelsea teammate John Obi Mikel, who is also in their ranks.
