Daniel Stendel urges Hearts caution as he names the 'main' factor behind Edinburgh derby win

Hearts manager Daniel Stendel warns victory over Hibs is only "the first step" toward pulling themselves out of the relegation mire.

The Jambos took a deserved 3-1 win at Easter Road to win back-to-back games for the first time since a February 2019 win over Kilmarnock came after a victory against St Johnstone the weekend before.

The result moves Hearts off the bottom of the Premiership but their manager isn't getting carried away.

Stendel told BT Sport: "My first derby win, it was great.

"I think we played with discipline, and I think the fact we scored the first goal was the main part today.

"After that it was great, we created chances and scored for two and three-nil, we had the chances to score more but it was only important that we win this game.

"It was good also for our fans, that if we couldn't win at Tynecastle we win here at Easter Road.

"Like the cup game it was a good game and we deserved to win today, but it's only one step and we have a lot games left - 10 games I think.

"We need to do it every game. Our discipline in defence is better, I can say I'm a little bit unhappy about the 3-1 but OK, I think we defended better today.

"We know it's not easy here and hte main thing was to win this game here today. It was the same on Saturday.

"It's good that the players can do it, with our help.

"It's the first step, there are 10 games left. But it was an important step for us and we go on to Saturday against Motherwell."
