Daniel Stendel spotted drinking with Barnsley supporters and Sunderland fans love it

The life of an out-of-work manager can be stressful but Sunderland target Daniel Stendel has found a way to kick back and relax.

The German boss left Barnsley on Tuesday morning after the two parties parted company following disagreements over the club's recruitment policy in the summer.

The likes of Liam Lindsay, Ethan Pinnock and Kieffer Moore were all sold to Championship rivals.

That caused tension in the boardroom, with Stendel, believed to be claiming he needed some more experienced options in the squad, something that goes against Barnsley's policy of recruiting young players, with a potential high sell-on value.

After Sunderland sacked Jack Ross on the same day, all eyes moved to Stendel who immediately became the favourite for the North East post with a number of bookmakers.

Indeed, Stendel has remained high up in the betting 48 hours after Ross' sacking, although Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth is the bookmakers' new favourite.

So, how has Stendel coped with his sudden free time? Well, last night the manager was videoed downing shots with Barnsley fans.

The footage has gone viral on social media, which underlines the close relationship that Stendel had with the Tykes fans, despite his unharmonious split from the south Yorkshire club.

It appears that Stendel headed down to his local pub in Barnsley where he was greeted by a group of the club's supporters for a departing drink.

It's that sort of camaraderie that could make the German a popular figure at the Stadium of Light as the board seek to appoint a boss that can bring reunite the club with their supporters.

It's safe to say the video has gone down well with the Sunderland supporters, with some adamant that Stendel should be the new man in the Stadium of Light dugout.

Here's a look at how they reacted to the video on Twitter.
