Daniel Stendel reveals Hearts body blow as Steven Naismith suffers fresh injury woe

Daniel Stendel has revealed his disappointment with his Hearts players as he lost a third game on the spin since being appointed.

The 2-1 defeat against Hamilton means the Jambos are now rock bottom of the Premiership table and firmly in the relegation mire with talisman Steven Naismith coming off with an as yet unidentified injury at half-time.

In a glimmer of hope for the denizens of Gorgie, the German sees positive signs in the way his side have performed in patches of games and has called for his strikers to be more clinical in front of goal.

He told the BBC: "It's very disappointing, especially how we conceded the two goals.

"I think like the last game we created some really good chances but we didn't score and I'm really disappointed with the performance in the second half.

"When you play like this in the first half and you have the chance then we need to score. I'm sorry."

He continued: "We need to play like we did for 50 or 60 minutes against Celtic and today especially in the first 35 minutes - that was the standard for every game.

"We need to show it for 90 minutes and we need more power for 90 minutes and we need to score sometimes.

"It was the same like the last two games, we didn't have enough chances and we have not at been clinical enough at this moment."

Naismith's failure to reappear in the second 45 will be a concern for the Hearts fans and Stendel confirmed the Scotland striker felt he was unable to continue.

He said: "It was (an injury), yeah. He wanted to help the team but at the end of the first half he said he had some problems and it would make more sense he didn't play in the second half."
