Daniel Stendel makes key Hearts decision as latest reshuffle dismantles Craig Levein regime

Daniel Stendel has confirmed Andy Kirk will be the sole assistant coach on the Hearts bench against St Johnstone.

The new Jambos boss is yet to appoint any backroom staff following his unveiling earlier this week.

It's believed Stendel intends to bring former Barnsley assistants Dale Tonge and Christopher Stern to Tynecastle in the near future.

He revealed coaches Jon Daly and Liam Fox, who served under Craig Levein , have been assigned "different tasks" and it's been reported they took reserve training on Friday.

Club chief Ann Budge confirmed earlier this week that Austin MacPhee , Levein's No.2 and interim boss following his departure, was poised to take on a recruitment position.

Current reserve team coach now appears set for a different role alongside Stendel.

"I have worked the last few days with Andy and I think he can be really good in the future," the manager said.

"He has a lot of passion that I like for my assistant coach and we some of the same ideas and we learn from each other.

"I think, at the moment, he is the one and only person that I trust on the bench.

"Yeah, sorry. Andy Kirk and all staff members but the last three assistant coaches have different tasks in the future."

With Hearts hovering above the relegation zone on goal difference only, Stendel admits he's implementing his style on the squad gradually.

The German is known for a high pressing philosophy he insists cannot be learned overnight as Hearts prepare for Saints' Saturday visit to Tynecastle.

Stendel added: "My football is not any more special than football from other managers - it is only what I prefer.

"My first impressions are that the players want to learn, they are open to new things and that's the biggest thing for me, that we have players who want to improve.

"The mentality in training is good. We tried to keep the main things in training the same because in four days you cannot change it all.

"I have a good feeling."
