Determined Daniel Stendel has been "lined up" for a quick return to management at St Pauli.
The German boss only discovered he'd been removed from his post at Hearts when the club announced the appoitment of new boss Robbie Neilson.
Stendel, who had also waived his wages, revealed earlier this week that Tynecastle chiefs had apologised to him for failing to communicate.
But he could be set for a quick return to management in his homeland following a short stint in the Premiership.
Hamburg side St Pauli have narrowly escaped relegation from Bundesliga 2 this season, but former Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay will leave after the last game of the season at the weekend.
And Stendel - who played for St Pauli towards the end of his career - is reportedly the leading candidate to take charge of the Millerntor Stadium club.
Stendel said this week: "I see myself at a club that is enthusiastic, has fan potential and sports ambitions. There are enough of those in Germany too, but I remain open to everything."
St Pauli coach Markus Gellhaus was Stendel's assistant manager when he was in charge of Hannover and the club are keen to talk to the former Barnsley boss.St Pauli are not the only one of his former clubs who are interested in Stendel.
German third tier side SV Meppen, who Stendel also used to play for, have seen their fans launch a petition to get the ex-Tynecastle boss as their new manager.
