Daniel Stendel '100 per cent' backed to get it right at Hearts by coach who saw him work up close

Daniel Stendel has been backed "100 per cent" to get it right at Hearts.

Former Jambos goalkeeping coach Jonathan Craig has seen Stendel's work up close, and he reckons it's only a matter of time before things start clicking for the German at Tynecastle.

Craig now works at Real Kashmir in India, but was coaching at Barnsley during Stendel's successful spell at the club.

He told the Daily Record: "If Hearts do stay up, the club will click and the team will click next season under him.

"Daniel was really, really good for me. He knew what he needed to get out of the team. Obviously I wasn't working with the first team under him but I saw day to day what he was doing, on the pitch as well.

"He was really good and when I heard he was the front runner to get the Hearts job I was intrigued to see how he was going to do because I thought hearts and Daniel Stendel would have been a really good fit.

"The Hearts fans love attacking football, they love a high tempo and passion on the pitch as well. What Daniel showed at Barnsley, I thought he would definitely show at Hearts."

Craig reckons Hearts have also made a smart move in appointing Dale Tonge to the club.

He added: "He's one that I think the players will really relate to as well. He's got fantastic knowledge of the game and his coaching and training is of a really good standard.

"The main thing is he's a great guy, Tongey. An absolute gem so he'll fit in really well I think."
