Daniel O'Donnell surprises Donegal hospital with 'social-distant concert'

Irish Country Singer Daniel O’Donnell brought a song to the hearts of elderly residents in a Donegal hospital when he paid them a visit for surprise ‘social-distancing concert’.

O’Donnell who has recently spoken about how music is helping him get through lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic decided he would share the music with others and performed an impromptu concert from the garden of the residential home at Falcarragh Community Hospital.

O’Donnell has also performed for residents in Dungloe hospital in Donegal.

Speaking to Ireland AM about the concerts O’Donnell said: “Sure it passes the time for me, takes nothing out of me and gives a wee bit of a change of atmosphere to those people who are in the hospitals and various places.”

Ani O’Donnell, a staff member at Falcarragh hospital captured and posted a series of videos and photographs of the concert on Friday on Facebook.

She said: “On behalf of all the residents & staff in Falcarragh Community Hospital, we would like to say a massive thank you to the one and only Daniel O’Donnell.“Words can not express the joy you brought to the residents this afternoon.”

The videos and photographs included pictures O’Donnell took through the windows with some of the residents who have been unable to have visitors while they were cocooning.

Since O’Donnell admitted In a recent interview with RTÉ Radio 1’s Séan O’Rourke that music is helping him get through lockdown it’s no surprise that he’d try to lift the spirits of others through music as well.
