Daniel O'Donnell fans react as they hail new music video as 'best thing to ever come out of Ireland'

Daniel O'Donnell has released a new music video and it's been labelled "the best thing to ever come out of Ireland" - for all the right reasons.

The legendary crooner released the clip for his cover of Jimmy Buffet's classic single Down at The Lah De Dah last week.

It features Daniel getting ready for bed in his pyjamas before drifting away into quite an interesting dream.

We can see the Donegal native doing a wide variety of activities, including surfing, dancing in a Hawaiian shirt and hula skirt, looking emotional in a car and becoming best pals with a pirate.

All anyone could talk about when it hit social media on Tuesday was the video.

One user called Shane got the ball rolling saying: "I'm not exaggerating when I say the new Daniel O'Donnell video might be the best thing to ever come out of Ireland"

Others agreed in the replies, with one joking "If you'd told me this is next year's Eurovision entry called "My Hawaiian Horse", I'd have believed you."

Another said 2Remember those hash scones in Derry Girls? Well, this is what you hallucinate if you eat them"

There wasn't really a bad word about the video or the song, with one person tweeting "Thanks for sharing. It’s so cheesy it’s genius. Love the octopus playing guitar solo!"

A fifth added "Forget Daniel Craig, Daniel O'Donnell needs to be the next Bond"

Meanwhile, Andrew McGinley has thanked Daniel for agreeing to headline a tribute concert in memory of his children who tragically died at the hands of their mother.

The heartbroken father said he can’t believe the big-hearted singer from his native Donegal agreed to headline the charity show which takes place next summer.

The three children – Conor, Darragh and Carla – were killed by their mother, Deirdre Morley, who was found not guilty of their murder by reason of insanity in May 2020.

From his home in Newcastle, Co Dublin, Andrew told the Sunday Mirror that after months of preparations he is delighted to announce that Daniel will take the stage at the Newcastle Community Centre on June 2 next.
