Daniel Levy: Tottenham can splash cash on transfers now stadium is complete

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has signalled his intention to finally splash the cash on players after finishing the club’s £1billion new stadium.

Levy was speaking at an event in Shanghai to announce a new eight-year shirt sponsorship with AIA – thought to be worth roughly £320million or £40m-a-season.

The deal brings Spurs in line with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has urged Levy to start a “new chapter” and “work in a different way” after finishing the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Hotspur Way, the club’s Enfield training base which cost £25m and the £5m Player Lodge.

Tottenham have already broken their transfer record to sign Tanguy Ndombele for £65million from Lyon this summer. They have also contacted Juventus about Argentina forward Paulo Dybala, who would cost at least £80m, and remain in talks with Real Betis over £67m-rated Giovani Lo Celso.

In the biggest indication yet that he is ready to back Pochettino in the transfer market, Levy said: “We have embarked in recent years on two major capital projects, which I think in the long term will be of great benefit to the club. We will now continue wherever we can to improve the team.

"Now it’s [time] to continue to find ways to not only improve the commercial aspects of the club but also the football and continue to be a success.”
