Daniel Levy tells Tottenham fans exactly what Jose Mourinho wants amid Tanguy Ndombele setback

Daniel Levy has backed Totteham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho's demands over his players and the type of footballers we wants to bring to the club.

Spurs completed the permanent signing of Giovani Lo Celso earlier this season after initially bringing the Argentinian in on loan from Real Betis in the summer under Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite not being a regular starter for much of the first half of the season the playmaker has emerged as one of the brightest performers in a difficult season.

Mourinho also welcomed Gedson Fernandes to the squad in January in a loan deal from Benfica following a serious injury to Moussa Sissoko along with the permanent signing of winger Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven.

However, club record signing Tanguy Ndombele has come in for criticism from Mourinho following his summer move from Lyon, leading to questions over his arrival and relationship with his manager.

In a meeting between the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust and the club's board, Levy hailed the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss for the values he demanded from his players.

The chairman claimed that Spurs were a club that sought to make superstars, and remained a team with a special "DNA" in the dressing room. He also picked out Harry Winks and his progress as an example that underlined the  Tottenham approach.

Levy also described Mourinho as only wanting to bring in players who are prepared to give their all for the club and recognise the opportunity of having the chance to play for Spurs.

The chair picked out the recent problems faced by the team over a significant run of bad luck when it comes to injuries, an issue he said he felt has been outside of anyone's control.

Speaking after Tottenham's 1-1 draw with Burnley, Mourinho openly criticised Ndombele over his struggles to get fully fit and in-form since joining Spurs.

"My thinking was that in the first half we didn't have a midfield. Simple as that," he said.

"I think more important than the tactics is to have midfield players that want the ball, to have midfield players that connect the game, to have midfield players that press, to have midfield players that recover ball, to have midfield players that win duels and we didn't have it.

"Of course I'm not speaking about Skipp because Skipp's a kid of 19-years-old that played two hours of football in the last day.

"I'm not critical with Skipp at all, at all, because I don't want another question about the same story, I'm not going to run away and I have to say that Tanguy had enough time to come to a different level.

"I know that the Premier League is very difficult and some players it takes time. Some players it takes a long time to adapt to a different league, but a player with this potential and responsibility has to give us more than he is giving us.

"When you see the way Lo Celso, Lucas and players are playing every minute I was expecting more in the first half but second half was really good."
