Daniel Levy's surprise Tottenham transfer deal will create new villain for Arsenal fans to hate

Emiliano Martinez left Arsenal in 2020 and was treated by Arsenal fans like a legend when departing from the club after his heroics towards the backend of the 2019/2020 season which saw the Gunners lift the FA Cup.

Since his move to Aston Villa, the Argentine has done everything in his power to destroy his relationship with his former club and it has almost seemed like he has held some type of resentment due to the lack of first team opportunities he had.

He is constantly seen ridiculing the club in the interviews when asked about his time in north London, rather than showing gratitude towards the fan base.

And he could become Arsenal’s new villain after it has emerged that Martinez is now attracting serious interest from Tottenham, who deem him one of four possible replacements for captain Hugo Lloris, according to The Independent.

Despite the 29-year-old’s seemingly damaged relationship with the Gunners, this would be the absolute nail in the coffin.

We have not seen a player switch north London sides since William Gallas joined Spurs after leaving Arsenal on a free transfer in 2010.

With what Martinez achieved at Arsenal he certainly does not deserve to be put in a category alongside Gallas and this is why he must reject this move at all costs.

Arsenal fans certainly had the last laugh in the back and fourths between the fanbase and the goalkeeper, as Mikel Arteta’s side came out thumping 3-1 winners against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang smiling in the face of Martinez after he conceded a goal was a particular highlight that was doing the rounds on social media.

But this is still light-hearted and it is certainly a relationship that he could repair if he was show more gratitude when asked about the club in interviews.

A move to rivals Spurs would be taking matters too far and would completely destroy any potential revival of a relationship.

Martinez spent a decade in North London and had hard moments for sure, but this turned into a fairy tale in the end which should be maintained.

He should not completely eradicate a decade of memories by becoming a villain and extending his time in north London but doing so by joining Tottenham.
