Daniel Levy's key Tottenham criteria as search for Jose Mourinho's replacement gathers momentum

Tottenham are on the hunt for a new manager for the second time in 18 months after Jose Mourinho was fired on Monday, with Daniel Levy set to bring in a new man at the end of the season.

Ryan Mason will take charge until the summer, having been given the job on an interim basis.

The 29-year-old has been thrown in at the deep end, with a Carabao Cup final against Premier League champions-elect on Sunday.

Mason will also have to deal with a fractured squad, which is low on confidence after a lengthy spell of disappointment under Mourinho.

A host of big names have been linked with the role, including Julian Nagelsmann and Massimiliano Allegri.

But Levy has more to think about than just hiring a big-name manager, and Mirror Football has identified the three criteria Levy will look for in a manager.

Affordability

Jose Mourinho's sacking apparently cost Tottenham £15million (PA)

Tottenham saved themselves a bit of money by firing Mourinho while Spurs were seventh in the league, but his employment still cost the club a reported £15million.

For that reason, Spurs will likely go for a cheaper option when it comes to hiring their next manager.

Nagelsmann and Allegri will likely be expensive options, and Levy won't want a replacement of his failed Mourinho experiment.

Focus on squad harmony

Tottenham's season has been terrible so far, and numerous players were apparently unhappy with life under Mourinho.

Whoever replaces the two-time Champions League winner will have to focus on getting the squad together ahead of next season.

Players like Dele Alli and Danny Rose will likely have their roles increased next season, and Mourinho's replacement will have to ensure all members of the squad feel valued.

Getting the fans back onside

Tottenham's fanbase is as against the club as it has been in recent living memory following the European Super League fiasco.

While Mourinho's sacking was well-received by supporters, it acted as little more than a five-minute distraction from the larger issue at hand.

While they are unlikely take their frustrations out on the team when they return to stadiums, Levy will have to appoint someone with an attractive style of play in order to please the fanbase.
