Daniel Levy's first words after Jose Mourinho sacked as Tottenham head coach

Jose Mourinho's time as Tottenham Hotspur head coach has come to an end after just under 18 months in charge.

Appointed as the man to replace Mauricio Pochettino at the helm, the experienced manager has been under intense pressure recently following a huge drop in form in 2021.

Sitting top of the table in the week leading up to Christmas, Spurs now find themselves five points off the Champions League places with six games of the season still to play.

Despite the fact Spurs are in Carabao Cup final action on Sunday against Man City, Daniel Levy has made the decision to part with the 58-year-old after a nightmare run of results.

Speaking to the club's official website following the announcement, the chairman has stated that he enjoyed working with Mourinho but regretted that things didn't work out as planned following their time together in north London.

"Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. "Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic," said Levy.

"On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.

"He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution."

Following Mourinho's exit, Tottenham confirmed that former player Ryan Mason will take first-team training today and a further update will follow in due course.

Spurs have two games this week with Southampton to come on Wednesday and then the final against Man City at Wembley on Sunday.
