Daniel Levy opens up on Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen contract issues

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has delivered the latest update on the contract situations of Spurs players including Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen.

All three players are out of contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the season, and will be free to talk to other clubs in the January transfer window in order to move on for nothing next summer.

The trio were all linked with summer moves away from the club, with Eriksen in particular speaking of his desire for a new challenge.

Spurs chairman Levy was asked about the situation during the Tottenham Hotspur supporters' trust meeting .

The minutes from the meeting reveal: "Concerning the situations of other player contracts, Daniel Levy said that it wasn’t possible to make a anyone sign a contract if they didn’t want to. Some players have been at Spurs for a long time and want to pursue new opportunities elsewhere.

"Daniel Levy felt it was important to look at each individual circumstance. Players want new challenges. It wasn’t always about not wanting to play for Tottenham any more."

Wenger: Pochettino needs to show he can give more to Tottenham

Both Eriksen and Alderweireld have played a part in every Premier League match so far this season, with Vertonghen breaking back into the team for the last five games.
