Daniel Levy open to letting Christian Eriksen quit Tottenham for Man Utd transfer

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy insists they are not "scared" of selling Christian Eriksen to a Premier League rival amid Manchester United interest.

The Red Devils have long been linked with a move for Eriksen, who is out of contract in north London in the summer and primed for a January exit.

Having rejected several offers to renew his contract, Spurs look set to try and cash-in on Eriksen next month, although he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement directly with foreign clubs on January 1.

With that in mind, Levy has told Standard Sport : "We are honestly not scared to trade with our rivals" when asked if he would sanction a sale to another Premier League club.

Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are also running down their contracts, although the club have not entirely given up hopes of agreeing extensions after the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager.

Discussing his stance, Levy said: “My view is really simple. For a player to sign a new contract, not only have the conditions got to be right but the player has got to want to do it.

"It is up to those players whether they want to stay at Tottenham and we’ll see.

“I don’t want to comment on individual players too much. I actually think it is unfair.

"Every circumstance is different. There may be a player who wants to stay, there may be a player we don’t want to stay.”

Manchester United are looking to add creativity in midfield in January leading to speculation they could re-enter the market for Eriksen given his situation.

The Danish playmaker is said to be "attracted" by the prospect of playing for the Red Devils, with reports claiming Spurs are likely to accept a figure of around £25m for his services having rejected a last-ditch bid from United last summer.
