Daniel Levy handed Tottenham transfer boost in race for potential Harry Kane replacement

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their search for a potential Harry Kane replacement this summer having reportedly moved up the queue for Stuttgart forward Nico Gonzalez.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the Argentine in the past, with Kane potentially seeking a transfer away from North London.

It was reported that the North Londoners were ‘thinking’ of making an offer but faced competition from Serie A outfit Fiorentina, who were also rumoured to be interested and had already tabled a bid for the forward.

However, Fiorentina.it now suggest that La Viola have moved onto alternative targets including Valencia’s Goncalo Guedes, having failed to reach an agreement with Gonzalez’s current employers.

This could, therefore, see Spurs given an easier run at attempting to bring the 23-year-old to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A five-time Argentina international, Gonzalez arrived at Stuttgart ahead of the 2018/19 season from Argentinos Juniors and initially struggled in the Bundesliga as he only netted two goals as the club were relegated.

He found his form in the second tier of German football, netting on 14 occasions en route to an instant promotion.

His most recent campaign was hugely hampered by injury, having missed 19 games throughout the season.

However, Gonzalez still enjoyed a relatively productive season with six goals in 15 league appearances as Stuttgart finished ninth.

Whilst featuring as a striker on the majority of occasions, he is also capable of playing on the left-flank.

Gonzalez still has three years remaining on his current contract at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
