Tottenham are aiming to announce their next manager by the end of the season, football.london understands.
It is now just over a week since Daniel Levy called time on Jose Mourinho's 17-month tenure in N17 following a disastrous set of results that saw the team tumble down the league standings and crash out of Europe.
A number of names have been linked with the Spurs hotseat already, including RB Leipzig's Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers of Leicester City.
However, it was confirmed on Tuesday that Nagelsmann will replace Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich ahead of next season and Rodgers is also believed to be focused on remaining at the King Power Stadium.
Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is the current favourite for the job with some bookmakers, with the likes of Graham Potter and Roberto Martinez also linked with the position over the past week
The trio have plenty of admirers due to their style of football and they would all match the profile of manager the club are looking to appoint in place of Mourinho.
football.london understands that the manager Spurs are looking to appoint ideally will be progressive, attack-minded, favouring possession-based football and also fits into the club's culture.
Following the news that Spurs want to appoint their next manager by the end of the season, Levy and the club now have just over three weeks to do so with the league drawing to a close on Sunday, May 23 when the team travel to Leicester City.
Other managers who have been linked with the job are Massimiliano Allegri and Ralf Rangnick, with both out of work since departing Juventus and RB Leipzig respectively.
Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, Nuno Espirito Santo of Wolves and Atletico Bilbao's Marcelino have also been in the headlines regarding the vacancy but the links are believed to be wide of the mark at this point.
Other rumoured candidates such as England boss Gareth Southgate and ex-Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe are not currently expected to be in the frame.
Until Levy and the club come to a decision over who will succeed Mourinho, interim head coach Ryan Mason will continue to take the team for their remaining five Premier League fixtures.
