Daniel Jones, Zion Williamson have discussed taking over New York

Former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones is now on the fast track to take over for Eli Manning in New York, but he’s not the only major name from his alma mater who could soon be calling the Big Apple home.

The NBA Draft will be held on June 20 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and should the New York Knicks win the draft lottery and select No. 1 overall, there’s little doubt they will take Duke powerhouse Zion Williamson.

On Friday at rookie minicamp, Jones — the No. 6 overall pick in last week’s NFL Draft — said he and Williamson have recently discussed that possibility and what it would mean to take over as the faces of New York sports.

“We talked a little bit about that this week, actually. That’d be a cool deal,” Jones told reporters. “But we’ll see what happens. He’s a special guy.”

During that discussion, Jones couldn’t help but grin ear to ear, and we know darn well Knicks fans were joining him with that thought in mind.

Williamson had given brief thought to rejoining the Blue Devils in 2019 but ultimately declared for the NBA Draft in mid-April. He is widely expected to go No. 1 overall regardless of who holds the pick, but it would be a major coup for New York to land both Jones and Williamson.
