Daniel Jones is the Andy Dalton successor in new MMQB mock draft

The build to the 2019 NFL draft has seen the Cincinnati Bengals do all sorts of interesting things in mocks when it comes to quarterback.

Those mocks have featured Dwayne Haskins. They have seen the Bengals capitalize on a Kyler Murray fall and trade up.

And now they like the idea of Daniel Jones as the second quarterback off the board at No. 11. The mock comes from Jenny Vrentas at The MMQB:

“That’s particularly true with Jones—in discussing him with people around the league, sometimes I wondered if they were all talking about the same player. I think the divide with him comes with floor vs. ceiling, and coaches in particular may be more inclined to see a high ceiling in Jones. While some evaluators say he grades as a mid-round pick, others are smitten by him, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him be the second QB taken after Murray. If Zac Taylor loves Jones—or doesn’t love Andy Dalton—that could happen here.”

Remember: mocks are just for fun but are also a tool to provide an overarching look at the draft class and team needs. And even a writer at the Bengals’ official website has said quarterback is a possibility.

Jones is an interesting one because he didn’t produce at a major clip in college, yet still looks the part at 6’5″ and 221 pounds with supreme mechanics.

That alone has him riding high:

Whether Zac Taylor thinks he can lift Jones to above a “solid starter” status is impossible to say right now. But if he’s there when the Bengals walk to the podium, it should be interesting to see if they have him as their highest graded overall player.
