The Newcastle-based former Silverchair frontman, who has a number of properties in his hometown, is selling an investment apartment in Sydney.

The two-bedroom apartment in the inner-Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst was bought by Johns and his brother Heath in 2010 for for $670,000 according to Cotality.

The top-floor apartment with a deck with city skyline views and harbour glimpses has a price guide of $1.3 million.

That sits well above the median apartment price for Darlinghurst, which is $1.08 million according to Cotality.

The renovated apartment is in a noted art deco block and is drenched in sunlight throughout. While the property has been updated there is room to improve on the blank canvas.

It's greatest drawcard, however, is its position.

"Bathed in natural light and enjoying complete privacy with no common walls, it delivers a rare combination of outlook, aspect and character in one of the area's most tightly held Art Deco addresses," according to the listing.

The property, listed with Jeremy Brink of Bresic Whitney, also sits close to the entertainment precinct along Oxford Street and is within walking distance to the CBD.

The well-positioned investment property was most recently rented out for $900 a week.

The decision to sell comes quickly after the singer also listed a Merewether block of land that he had planned to build on.

He listed that prime piece of land in May, after demolishing the home that previously sat there.

In doing so he abandoned plans to build on the site which has a prime position in the beachside suburb.

The elevated block of land in Charlotte Street is listed with Lyndall Allan and Georgia Rickey of Salt Property.

It has a price guide of $2.75 million to $3 million.

It was part of a larger block of land, across two titles, that Johns subdivided.

The original 1970s five-bedroom house had been his home for 25 years.

The musician also owns a two-bedroom house overlooking Merewether Beach. The retro beach house is a popular Airbnb rental.
