Daniel Jeremiah thinks Broncos could trade down from 12th overall pick

The Denver Broncos are currently scheduled to pick 12th overall in the 2024 NFL draft, and none of the top four quarterbacks in this year’s class are expected to still be on the board when the Broncos go on the clock.

During a conference call with reporters last month, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah hinted at the possibility of Denver trading down in April.

Jeremiah identified cornerback and pass rusher as two key positions of need for Denver (we agree), and he thinks the Broncos could trade down from No. 12 and still land a top CB or OLB.

“[I]f you’re not going to get the quarterback that you like there, I think you could make a strong case if you are, like, ‘Hey, we want to get another corner, and we like the corners in this draft, there’s a good number of them,'” Jeremiah said on Feb. 22. “Maybe you can trade back and recoup that pick, that second-round pick.”

As Jeremiah noted, Denver does not currently hold a pick in the second round. Trading down might allow the Broncos to acquire a second rounder while still landing a top talent later in the first round.

“I kind of like that idea if you are looking in that direction. I think there’s also some interesting edge players that you could slide down a little bit depending on what happens. I think there’s kind of the top three guys with [Dallas] Turner, with [Jared] Verse, with [Laiatu] Latu. I think if two of the three are still there, that might embolden you to make that move as well. You need to come out of that thing with a really good corner or edge rusher if you slide back a handful of picks.”

Jeremiah name-dropped three of the top edge defenders in Turner, Verse and Latu. There does not seem to be a clear consensus of cornerback rankings for this year’s class, but Terrion Arnold, Quinyon Mitchell, Nate Wiggins and Kool-Aid McKinstry are among the top prospects.

The 2024 NFL draft will be held in Detroit from April 25-27.
