Daniel Jeremiah gives Sam Howell an offensive playmaker in his new mock draft

NFL Network draft analyst has made no secret about his affinity for Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell. When the Commanders landed Howell with the first pick of the fifth round last spring, Jeremiah said Howell wasn’t your typical late-round quarterback.

Jeremiah touted Howell’s physical tools and believed his fall in the draft was due to the lack of talent around him during his final season at North Carolina in 2021.

Earlier this offseason, when he learned Washington planned on giving Howell a chance to start in 2023, Jeremiah remained bullish on the second-year quarterback.

Last week, the Commanders signed talented veteran Jacoby Brissett to compete with Howell.

In his latest mock draft and his first since free agency began, Jeremiah went against the norm, giving Howell another offensive weapon at No. 16 overall.

I wouldn’t rule out a quarterback with this selection, but I love the idea of adding a dynamic tight end to Washington’s impressive wide receiving corps. I’m excited to see what Sam Howell can do as the starter for the Commanders.

It’s still difficult to believe Washington would go with a tight end in round one. Not because they are set at the position, but the Commanders believe Logan Thomas will be healthy in 2023 and are counting on some of their young tight ends, like Cole Turner and Armani Rogers, to take a step forward.

But with new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy having significant input, you can’t rule it out. Remember, Bieniemy comes from an offense that heavily featured the tight end. While no one can Washington can put on the field in 2023 will resemble Travis Kelce, Bieniemy understands how important that position is in his offense.

And Kincaid is a terrific athlete who was highly productive in college.

Could you imagine an offensive group of Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel, Brian Robinson Jr., Antonio Gibson, Kincaid and Howell?
