Daniel James to Manchester United transfer latest after new Swansea admission

Swansea City are resigned to losing Daniel James to Manchester United with the transfer now almost certain to happen.

United had agreed personal terms with the Welshman before his father tragically died last week, which meant the player was given time to grieve.

MEN Sport understands that the move will take place for a fee of around £15million, potentially rising to £20million including add-ons.

James was named in Ryan Giggs' preliminary Wales squad for upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Croatia and Hungary, but didn't travel to Portugal for their training camp after the tragic news. He is expected to link up with his compatriots in Cardiff this week before flying out for the first game on June 8.

The deal to United could be done before then, with Swansea chairman Trevor Birch dropping a huge hint that James's departure was imminent over the weekend.

Asked in an interview with WalesOnline how many players the Swans would sell this summer, Birch said: "I can't see there being many. If the Dan James thing happens then there might possibly be one or two, I don't know. But I can't see a fire sale of players.

"If someone comes in with an offer that is sensible and proper player trading then you would have to think about that.

"But you can’t give players away. You’ve got to get the right value for them. We aren’t in a position, and I am pretty well versed in financial positions and football clubs, where we have to sell a player or it is ‘Good Night Vienna’. We can hold out for the right prices."

Signing James would signal Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first foray into the transfer market since being appointed as United manager with the 21-year-old winger fitting the Norwegian's preference for signing young, homegrown players.
