Daniel James tipped to take early Man Utd form onto international stage with Wales

Daniel James is being tipped to repeat his red-hot Manchester United form on the international stage with Wales.

The 21-year-old winger already has three Premier League goals to his name for United after a £15m summer move from Championship side Swansea.

Joe Rodon came through the ranks alongside James at the Swans.

And he has backed the United newboy to turn on the style for Ryan Giggs’ men as well in Friday’s Euro 2020 home qualifier against Azerbaijan.

And Rodon insists there is no danger of James’ success at Old Trafford going to his head.

Rodon said: “He’s doing brilliantly.

“It’s a massive club and for him to go there and do that is a credit to him and all of the development over the years.

“He’s hit the ground running and he’s in great form.

“Hopefully he can continue to do it for United and Wales and can continue to perform at a high level.

“Dan’s a very talented and quick player with and without the ball so hopefully he can be a big player for us.

“Growing up with Dan in the academy, you don’t want to be going one-v-one against him.”

James scored the winner in Wales’ opening Group E clash with Slovakia in March but they have since suffered successive defeats against Croatia and Hungary.

Now fourth-placed Wales need to revive their fading qualification hopes with a good run this autumn.

Rodon reckons United legend Giggs, a former winger himself, is helping James with his game.

He added: “The gaffer is going to have chats with DJ after being in similar positions and it’s helpful for him.”

Uncapped Rodon is pushing for a debut after Giggs left veteran Ashley Williams out of his squad.

The defender has started every league game so far this term to help undefeated Swansea top the Championship under new boss Steve Cooper with five wins out of six.

Centre-back Rodon added: “I just love playing game in, game out and it’s only going to improve me.

“I’m grateful for what the gaffer has done for me and trusting in me.

“We’re keeping clean sheets and it’s been a great start so hopefully it keeps going.”
