Daniel James' Swansea City contract hint following mesmerising display against Stoke City

Daniel James expects there to be an update "soon" regarding his contract situation with Swansea City.

The Wales international's current deal with the Swans expires in June 2020, and he is expected to attract plenty of interest in the summer transfer window following a string of high quality displays for club and country.

The Swans are eager to tie the 21-year-old down to a long-term deal in the near future, and it is hoped that a positive outcome for the club can be achieved swiftly following the arrival of Trevor Birch as chairman.

Speaking after the 3-1 win over Stoke, Graham Potter said: "We're constantly in conversation but there's been that many games, from my perspective, I'm speaking with him about football, trying to help him improve and trying to help him enjoy his game."

And after producing a performance that Potter admitted was "above Championship level" in the win over Stoke, James confirmed that conversations about his future at the Liberty Stadium are ongoing.

"For me, it’s just about concentrating on the football," said the youngster.

"There’s a contract situation going on at the minute, but I’m enjoying my football here, in the last few games the way we’ve played has been unbelievable.

“I’ve just got to keep playing and keep enjoying it.

"I’m not really involved in it (negotiations), it’s just between my agent and the club, and that’s something that will come out soon."

James gave Swansea the lead in the 23rd minute against Nathan Jones' side, with Mike van der Hoorn and Oli McBurnie also got on the scoresheet as Potter's side clinched their third successive victory.

Wales boss Ryan Giggs was in attendance to watch James - as well as Connor Roberts, Joe Allen, Sam Vokes and Ashley Williams - in action on Tuesday night.

And having starred for Wales on his first competitive start for his country against Slovakia in March, James hopes he can force his way into Giggs' plans once again for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Croatia and Hungary in June.

When asked about Giggs being at the game, James responded: "It wasn’t until after the game that I was told.

"There will have been a few players from Stoke that he was looking at as well, so that was a key game to try and get in the squad for the European qualifiers in June."

James took his goal tally to six for the season for club and country with his effort against the Potters.

And the Swansea academy product admits he's been delighted with the way the Swans have acquitted themselves over what has been a hectic schedule of late.

"It’s been a tough week, so to come out with three wins is fantastic. The football that we’ve been playing is unbelievable," he added.

"I had two the other day which I thought were unlucky not to go in. As soon as I cut back inside, the only thing in my head was to go for the far corner and luckily it went in.

“Every time I had the ball the crowd was behind me, I’m enjoying my football.

"At the start of the season, playing three games on the bounce would be very hard, but he’s (Potter) got me to the point now where I can play every game.

"In the first few games, I turned down shots and crossing situations, so now I think I need to shoot more because in the last two or three games I’ve got goals from doing that."
