Daniel James set to sign for Manchester United but Chelsea might have been preferred destination

Manchester United are set to announce the signing of Daniel James from Swansea City in the coming days.

The 21-year-old has agreed personal terms ahead of his move to Old Trafford with a fee being agreed between the two clubs.

James has emerged as one of the hottest prospects outside of the Premier League with his direct running and electrifying pace bringing him to the attention of the big six in the Premier League.

Man City were thought to be keeping tabs on the Welsh international but United are now expected to win the race for the highly-rated youngster.

But would he be better suited to a team in west London?

James was born in Beverly in East Yorkshire and started off at the Hull City Academy before heading to Swansea City to join their youth set-up.

Previously it was thought that he was a Liverpool supporter but the The Times has now revealed that the winger is actually a Chelsea fan and he grew up supporting the Blues.

His idol is Eden Hazard who he cites as his biggest influence with the report suggesting that James 'shares with the Chelsea star a love of facing up and attacking defenders'.

With James set to move to the Premier League this summer, he could fulfil a lifelong dream of playing at Stamford Bridge. Blues fans may wish he was in the home colours.
