Daniel James 'set to be handed improved Man Utd deal' - nine months after signing

Manchester United are preparing to hand Daniel James a significant wage increase, according to reports.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed an impressive first season at Old Trafford following his £15million move from Championship club Swansea over the summer.

James signed a five-year deal with the Red Devils upon his arrival, but The Sun reports that the Wales international is already set to be rewarded with improved terms.

According to the publication, the winger has impressed members of the club's hierarchy and is set to see his current £35,000-a-week wages increase to around £50,000-a-week.

It is claimed that James was promised boosts to his original deal if he was able to establish himself as a regular member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first team squad.

His current contract is also understood to see him earn a number of performance-based bonuses, which includes goals and assists as well as various team achievements.

Although he was not expected to feature heavily for United this season, James has become a regular face in Solskjaer's starting XI after a fast start which saw him score three times in his opening four Premier League matches.

Although he has not found the net since, the Welshman has also gone on to provide seven assists in 36 appearances in all competitions this season.

“Daniel’s attitude both on and off the pitch has been first class since he arrived," a United insider reportedly told The Sun .

“He probably didn’t expect to be involved as much as he has been, but United want to look after him on the wages front.

“He’s an integral part of what the manager is trying to do here, we’re all very impressed.”

James could be back in action for Solskjaer's side during the first leg of United's Europa League last-16 tie with LASK Linz on Thursday after he played all 90 minutes of the impressive 2-0 win over Manchester City over the weekend.
