Daniel James reveals how his late dad is inspiring his Man Utd performances

Manchester United’s Daniel James claims knowing his dad is looking down on him helps him cope with his loss.

James admits he is still trying to come to terms with the death of his dad, Kevan, who passed away in May aged just 60 before he could complete his £15million switch to United from Swansea.

Kevan was a huge inspiration to James and the Wales winger says he misses him every day.

But he says knowing he is looking down on him as he takes his first steps with United is a great comfort.

“Every day, I miss him,” said James. “He always drove me on when he was here.

“There are times when I’m a bit down about it, but what he would say is just keep playing and working hard.

“I know he is looking down on me now, still driving me on.”

James, 21, was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing at Old Trafford and the United boss has praised him during the club’s gruelling tour of Australia and Asia.

The wideman impressed in United’s 1-0 win over Inter Milan in Singapore on Saturday and Solskjaer feels he has great potential.

The grounded James knows these are still early days for him at United and that there is much work yet to do.

“It’s pleasing, but there are three more games to the start of the season,” he said.
