Daniel James' Manchester United squad number revealed

Daniel James will wear the No.21 at Manchester United , it has been revealed.

The number was previously worn by Ander Herrera, who has left the club following the expiry of his contract. The Basque midfielder is expected to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

James wore the No.20 shirt at previous club Swansea City. The No.19 and No.25 shirts were also available to him — but he's gone for the No.21 whose previous owners at Old Trafford include Diego Forlan, Henning Berg and Rafael da Silva.

Dong Fangzhou and Pat McGibbon have also worn the number for United.

The news was revealed on United's official site, where you can now purchase a new shirt with 'James 21' on the back.

James became United's first summer signing when he arrived last month in a deal worth £15million, rising to £18million with add-ons.

He's since been joined by former Crystal Palace full back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, although neither player joined up with the United squad at their Carrington training ground today (Monday) after being give extended summer breaks. James played for his native Wales in Euro qualifying defeats to Croatia and Hungary in June.

But after signing for United, he said: "This is one of the best days of my life and a challenge I am really looking forward to. The Premier League is the best league in the world and Manchester United is the perfect place for me to continue to develop as a player."

Wan-Bissaka's shirt number has not yet been confirmed though he is expected to wear the No.29, which he wore at Palace.
