Daniel James' huge future twist as Leeds United swoop in to steal star striker signing

Fulham are closing in on the signing of Wales star Daniel James.

The Athletic report a season-long loan deal is in the pipeline, with Leeds United now pursuing a move for Bamba Dieng from Marseille as the 24-year-old's replacement at Elland Road.

Dieng's acquisition comes after Leeds failed to land priority signings Cody Gakpo and Hwang Hee-chan from PSV and Wolves respectively.

Dieng was due to join Lorient before Leeds stole in at the last-minute to seal the striker's signature.

James' move to Craven Cottage comes amid interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, Everton and Leicester City.

The former Swansea City winger moved across the Pennines to Leeds from Manchester United last summer in a deal worth £25million.

He had been used in various roles under Marcelo Bielsa initially and latterly with new boss Jesse Marsch, who appears unconvinced by the Welshman's best qualities.

Game-time will be paramount for James, who is set to play a big part under Wales boss Rob Page at this winter's World Cup in Qatar.
