Daniel Farke explains why Man City loanee Patrick Roberts has not played a single minute for Norwich

Norwich City manager Daniel Farke thinks that Manchester City wouldn't have loaned Patrick Roberts to the Canaries if they didn't trust in him as an option for the future.

The Canaries secured promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship last year and Roberts was identified as the perfect man to help them during their first season back in England's top division since 2014.

Roberts, who signed for City from Fulham back in 2015, spent last season on loan at Girona but failed to find the back of the net during his 14 appearances in all competitions.

He is yet to start for Norwich since making the temporary switch this summer, but Farke believes he made the right choice in joining the club and feels that City wouldn't have loaned him out without a plan for his long-term development.

"He is fully convinced this is the right place," Farke said. "Patrick was signed by a big club in Manchester City and it is not so easy to play for the first team there because of all the big names and competition.

"If they decide to loan him out it is because they trust in him as the future."

Farke also revealed that the exceptional form of Todd Cantwell and Emiliano Buendia during Norwich's opening three games has meant Roberts has been forced to watch from the sidelines, but will get the chance to impress against Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup.

He added: "It was unlucky for him that in his position of the pitch we have Todd Cantwell shining, we have Emi Buendia, who is also there with two assists last weekend. There is lots of competition but Crawley is a chance for him to be involved."
