Daniel Farke can set Leeds United at ease with repeat of 'patient' Krasnodar message

Daniel Farke's appointment at Leeds United brings with it two Championship promotions and much needed title winning experience at the helm. Whites' supporters were made to bide their time until the 46-year-old was unveiled at Elland Road but they've finally got their man.

Despite five years at the Canaries, the inner workings of Farke are somewhat unknown - at least in Yorkshire. The general view that the German will instil a gegenpress approach at Leeds may not be as straight forward as people think.

Farke strayed away from his Norwich City high press at Borussia Monchengladbach and tried to instil possession based football with round pegs in round holes. Leeds should be more acquitted to Farke's usual style of play, but it's a message from his time at Krasnodar that shines some light on his early approach at Thorp Arch.

The 26-year-old took charge of the Russian side in early 2022 but wouldn't take charge of a competitive game given the winter break and the Ukrainian invasion. Farke would leave his position and move to his native Germany, but there are some similarities between his appointment at Elland Road.

Farke's unveiling at Leeds has come as a surprise to German media, given how quick the turnaround was after leaving Gladbach this summer - similar to his arrival in Russia. The former Norwich City boss has revealed how meticulous he likes to be prior to taking a job, which highlights just how important the coming weeks are at Thorp Arch.

Speaking about his arrival at Krasnodar, Farke said: "The players were unbelievably open minded. Perhaps some of them following the Premier League - I wouldn't say scared, but anyhow there were questions in their mind about what the new coach will bring, what his ideas are, if he's unbelievably strict.

"I told them in my first meeting to be a bit patient with me because normally when I take over a club I'm perfectly prepared. I've watched all the games, I know every phase, I know each and every name in a perfect way.

"I know the league perfectly because I prepare myself. I like to prepare myself for a new task and I have to say this was quite spontaneous and I had to take a quick decision so with that you have to be patient with me.

"But also, open minded because we're all human beings and we like to stick to what we know and it's always difficult when there's something new, but I asked them to be open minded and I totally got this. It was a warm welcome from the staff and players and listen, I don't take this for granted, it's more like I have to earn their trust and I have to convince them.

"For that, to experience the atmosphere of support and be very open minded, trying to help in each and every aspect, I don't take it for granted."
