Arsenal have been up for sale for about two years.
That is according to the Mail on Sunday as it has been revealed that Stan Kroenke ’s holding company Kroenke Sports and Entertainment (KSE) received an approach from an international financial consortium less than two years ago.
In addition, the report states whilst a deal could not be made on that occasion, it did show that everyone has a price as the interested party were reportedly told KSE would entertain bids in the region of £1.7billion.
This particular stance could be a boost to anyone hoping to take Arsenal off KSE's hands amid Swedish billionaire Daniel Ek confirming his wish to do exactly that.
However, for that to happen there would need to be a change of heart as Kroenke has already publically insisted he won't be entertaining any offers to sell the club.
"In recent days we have noted media speculation regarding a potential takeover bid for Arsenal Football Club," a statement from KSE (Kroenke Sports & Entertainment) reads. "We remain 100% committed to Arsenal and are not selling any stake in the Club.
"We have not received any offer and we will not entertain any offer.
"Our ambition for Arsenal remains to compete to win the biggest trophies in the game and our focus remains on improving our competitiveness on the pitch to achieve this.
"Stan Kroenke and Josh Kroenke Kroenke, Sports & Entertainment."
With that said, Ek - the co-founder of music streaming service Spotify - still wants to purchase the club despite the aforementioned statement.
"Well you know I've been an Arsenal fan since I was 8," he told CNBC. "Arsenal is my team, I love the history, I love the players and of course I love the fans.
"So, as I look at that I just see a tremendous opportunity to set a real ambition for the club to bring it back to it’s glory. I want to establish trust with fans and I want to engage with fans again.
"So to answer your question I'm very serious. I’ve secured the funds for it and I want to bring what I think is a very compelling offer to the owners. I hope they hear me out."
